Cruise the Mekong in style and luxury
Individually exploring the Mekong? The new Gecko Eyes houseboats are perfect for you. The fleet consists of three beautiful vessels and the private houseboats are perfect for two people, made for tours on a high level — for couples and small families.
Based on the traditional An Giang fishing boats we are offering you new luxurious houseboats for private and exclusive tours through the Mekong delta. The vessels, built by local craftsmen, are made of local woods decorated with elegant carvings for a special touch.
To provide your safety and well-being, staff on board (captain, sailor, chef, tour guide) is at your constant disposition.
The guest area (40 sqm) has a luxurious cabin (double or twin occupancy) with a French balcony, air-con, a private bathroom, a panoramic lounge with French balconies and a sun deck at the bow. On request, the salon can be changed into an additional bedroom with two beds.
The staff area, with a well-equipped kitchen, is at the back of the ship. This area is completely separated from the guest area by a lockable door to ensure your privacy.
Day 1: Ho Chi Minh City - Cai Be (or Can Tho) - Panorama River Cruise
Meals: Lunch, Dinner
In the morning we take you to Can Tho or Cai Be and you board the comfortable wooden Gecko Eyes river cruiser around noon. After a refreshing welcome drink, we show you the onboard facilities and your cozy cabin. As lunch is served, the boat sets sail. Sit back and observe the fantastic scenery and the daily life of the Mekong people.
In the afternoon you can disembark for a guided stroll through a village and the surrounding fruit orchards or rice fields. Meet the friendly locals and taste the local produce and fruits.
Back onboard enjoy a drink at the bar or relax on deck as the sun sets over the magnificent watery landscape of the Mekong. The cruise boat will anchor for the night. The day ends with a delicious onboard dinner and overnight on your floating hotel in the Mekong Delta.
Day 2: Cai Rang (or Cai Be Floating Market) – Back to Ho Chi Minh City
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
Wake up well rested to the sound of the river and get ready for another exciting day of sightseeing in the Mekong Delta. At 06.30 the boat sets off for a sunrise cruise. While enjoying an early breakfast watch the locals go about their daily work drying exotic fruits and building ships.
After breakfast, board a sampan boat to Cai Be or Cai Rang floating market, the region's busiest and most lively markets. Here each boat usually sells one particular item, whether it be pumpkins, pineapples, sugar cane, etc, and to help the customer know where to shop, they hang that item from the highest part of the boat. We will pull up close to the boats to bargain with the merchants. We will also visit some of the local candy and cake making factories or sail through the lush watery landscape to see local houses, verdant orchards, and ship-building yards.
Note: The floating markets in the Mekong Delta are no tourist markets but wholesale markets where the produce of the Mekong Delta, like fruit and vegetables, is traded. For this reason, the number of boats on the market fluctuates depending on the season and market demand. Furthermore, modern wholesale markets are becoming more popular in Vietnam and this can result in decreasing numbers of boats being present in the markets.
After lunch at the Mekong Rest Stop near My Tho, we will take you back to your hotel in Saigon.
